Thursday while walking back to the hostel and I turned the corner to see a big surprise hanging out in the walkway.
normally the only ass i see when i'm traveling is kevin, so i really surprised to run into this guy.
actually I was incredibly nervous to walk behind him because I met a couple from L.A. who told me about how they saw a donkey the other day that went crazy hee hawing after the husband (in his best shrek impression) said hello to him. I snapped a couple of photos of the lone donkey, said a prayer and then tip toed past him. I'm happy to report there was no donkey hoof to the gut.
Also today i headed east on the island to another small town named Oia or Ia (pronounced eee-yah) or as I refer to it home of the best strawberry smoothie I've ever had. Actually it could have been the worst smoothie but when you've been walking around in 90 degree weather - anything you consume that is cold will be the best you've ever had - trust me on this. And it's not even the hot season here! I guess July and especially August are suppose to be uber hot. The locals refer to temperatures in the 90s as "normal". I spend half my day walking around with that just showered look only it's sweat and I'm actually finding new places on my body to perspire. See the things you have to think about when you travel alone.
Alright - enough about my hygeine and back to the good stuff...
Ia - so of all the postcards from this island I'm guessing 90% of them have to come with a view of this town. It's exactly what you picture when someone says santorini.
To end the day I grabbed dinner at a small taverna down the street from my hostel. The owner convinced me to try his homemade wine that he made from grapes grown in Santorini. The interesting thing about Santorini is the soil here is a mixture of dirt and lava stone because the island is essentially located on top of a volcano, therefore resulting in a unique flavor of grapes. The wine was excellent. It was so good that I ended up closing the place down while talking to my new friend and drinking more than my fair share of his delicious wine.

the more the merrier.....well maybe not in all cases
I arrived in Santorini earlier today after a whopping 9 hour ferry ride! Either this island is a lot farther from mainland greece than i originally thought or they did a good job hiding the guys who were rowing the ship.
i decided to try and give hostel living a try - 6 girls and one bathroom. yeah I don't think this hostel living is for me but it's only for a few nights.
Finally some eye candy for all you deserving fans. I took a stroll around the city of Fira and pictures just can not do it justice. it's simply amazing.

day 1: welcome to athens, now pay your fine...
good new - i've arrived in athens and as predicted the adventures have begun...
i managed to successfully (well almost successfully) maneuver the subway system to get to my hotel. I feel the need to stress the importance of getting your subway ticket validated before you board the subway. If not, you too could also receive a gift from the subway patrol in the form of a citation just like i did earlier today. I'm literally in the country for not even 2 hours and I've already been cited for something. I pleaded my case at their central offices so I'm hoping to get out of the 48 euro fine. good times! i'll keep everyone updated once i hear back from them...
other than that i've spent the majority of my day exploring the city and eating my first gyro which only cost 1.8 euros from a street vendor - not too shabby. oh and i forgot to bring my camera out with me today - reason 22 why it's nice traveling with kevin - so i have yet to take any pictures. the weather is warm to say the least - i think it got into the mid-80s today so my pale skin has started that slow burn.
tomorrow I'm traveling to santorini so I'll definitely include photos in my next post.
i'm off to my first 10pm dinner - yes the norm is to eat dinner after 10 pm. do you think they frown upon people showing up to eat in their pjs?
Until next time....

welcome drinkers and wanderers...
In response to many of you not wanting to go 12 weeks without knowing what's going on in your favorite person's life (understandably so), I took the advice of a friend and opened a blog. Now you'll be able to follow me through my internship. first stop - greece!
so stay tuned - good things to come.
