zoom zoom...

Friday - upon the recommendation of a friend from home and another couple I met from CA - I decided to rent an ATV for the day and explore the island. For a mear 15 euros (worth every penny of it!) Stella - my ATV - was my side kick on the road. We went all over the island exploring beaches, wineries and ancient ruins. If you EVER have the chance to rent one of these on vacation I highly recommend it.

First stop - red beach.

The name says it all - soaring red lava cliffs which drop right to the sandy shore and into the clear blue sea, make for a majestic setting. The beach was amazing. If you ever find yourself in Santorini this beach is a must. However, I need to warn you of two things - one - getting to this beach is not for the light of heart because you need to trek down a rockie terraine that runs alongside the wall of the cliff. Second, unless you are tan you will be faced with the same shock that i was...your pasty white skin will look even pastier when surrounded by dark stones. scary.

next stop - boutari winery

despite the lack of a vineyard tour which was promised is my frommers greece book - this was a nice place to taste some wines produced in Santorini and relax a bit. Below is a picture of grape vines. since the island is crazy windy they wrap the grape vines into circles as opposed to letting the grow high to protect the grapes.

last stop - kamari beach

kamari is known for it's lava stone beaches - which were really nice. Unlike red beach, kamari had much larger waves and was a lot more crowded.

since it was my last night in santorini i decided to splurge on dinner. I went to a place called selene. good food and even better views.

You're a little badass! Did you use to ride atvs and dirtbikes back in Ohio when you were younger?
